Mari Kita Main Wayang is a play-within-a-play that spotlights Peranakan culture

The play will be presented in English and Baba Melayu

Rolling out the red carpet for Peranakan theatre as an artform is local stage production Mari Kita Main Wayang. Combining light-hearted entertainment with thought-provoking elements, this play will also be presented in Baba Melayu to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the Peranakan community.

What truly sets this theatrical production apart is its storyline, which revolves around the concept of a play within a play. In this unique story, a group of Peranakans come together to present the production Empat Bini, set in a grand royal court. Sit back, relax, and watch as the narrative unfolds and things get complicated among the players.

Mari Kita Main Wayang represents a fresh take on playwright Felix Chia’s original script that was staged in 1994. Audiences can look forward to a humorous spin on the original, featuring clever banter and captivating storytelling, all delivered by the talented cast including Baba GT Lye, Karen Tan, Kimberly Chan, Loong Seng Onn and Munah Bagharib.
