Singapore is known for its glittering urban landscape, but there are so many ways to connect with the region’s wilder side – from hidden island coves to meandering nature trails. Earlier this year, a new nature experience opened on the northern edge of the city – a 3.3 kilometre boardwalk tracing the perimeter of River Wonders and Singapore Zoo, offering adorable views of the zoo’s resident animals.
Where is the Mandai Boardwalk?
Winding around the edge of the Upper Seletar Reservoir and brushing up against the Singapore Zoo and River Wonders, the Mandai Boardwalk is tucked into the Mandai Wildlife Reserve in northern Singapore. Think: forest-fringed riverside strolls with a side of giraffe-spotting.
What is the Mandai Boardwalk?
The new 3.3 kilometre path that lets you take in the wonders of the wild without splashing out on a ticket. Elevated over the water’s edge and weaving past themed rest stops like the Tree Frog’s Hangout and the Damselfly’s Wing, it’s part nature trail, part wildlife lookout, and entirely free.
How do you get to the Mandai Boardwalk from central Singapore?
Hop in a car, cab, or bus towards Mandai Wildlife Reserve – the journey takes around 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. Once you’re there, you can access the boardwalk from near the entrance of River Wonders or through Mandai Wildlife East, the shiny new gateway to all of Mandai’s attractions.
What can you see at the Mandai Boardwalk?
Expect sweeping views of Upper Seletar Reservoir, dragonflies and butterflies dancing between the trees, and maybe even a chorus of straw-headed bulbuls and long-tailed parakeets overhead. Peek through the trees and you might catch glimpses of Singapore Zoo’s residents too – Rothschild’s giraffes included.
When is the Mandai Boardwalk open?
The boardwalk is open daily, from 7am until 7pm. It closes at dusk, giving nocturnal critters their peace (and keeping night-time wanderers safe).
